Liverpool has been an international hub for hundreds of years.
Going back to 1715 when the first-ever commercial wet dock was completed in Liverpool on the River Mersey, right through to the completion of the then-revolutionary Albert Dock back in 1846. Liverpool has seen millions of visitors from all corners of the globe, arrive on the banks of the Mersey.
Today Liverpool of course is also connected to the rest of the world by Liverpool John Lennon international airport and regularly received visitors onboard cruise liners, not to mention commercial freight.
Given Liverpool’s status and history as an international hub, it may still come as surprise to some that the city hosts a number of official foreign consulates. The role of a consulate office is to offer assistance to their national citizens abroad.
